What are some recommended areas to visit & things to do during our stay?
It will depend on how long you plan to stay in Melbourne for in terms of what you have time to see & do. We would recommend visiting the South Melbourne Markets. They are open Wednesday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday. They are filled with a range of incredible food options as well as clothing, jewelry, cafes & more! If you love Dim Sims, you must try the famous South Melbourne Dim Sims & if you love a good hot jam donut, you can have yours piped fresh for you at the donut kart just outside the markets. We recommend you also head over to Hector's Deli South Melbourne if you are craving a thick warm toasted sandwich (they do fresh sandwiches too if you don't want a toasted one - check out their Instagram), their fries are to die for! South Melbourne is a beautiful area to see & super close to the CBD (walking distance from Southbank). If you like to shop, head over to Chadstone the fashion capital, Melbourne CBD (Melbourne Central & Emporium has great shops), Fitzroy, Armadale (High St - it is the Mosman of Melbourne) & South Yarra. If you are wanting to visit some outlets, DFO South Wharf (near Southbank) is great to go to! Another place to visit is the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) they will have an exhibition on that you will need to pay to see, otherwise they have a large range of free sections of art to see too.
What are some nice walks to do around Melbourne CBD?
We recommend you go for a walk through the Royal Botanical Gardens. These are some of the prettiest gardens located right next to the CBD. There is an awesome cafe located in the gardens at the bottom called 'The Terrace' if you fancy a bite to eat, a beverage or a coffee. Walking along the Yarra River towards the gardens or along Southbank is beautiful. It is Tiana's favourite walk to do in Melbourne which she does very often. You are able to see the beautiful city & be amongst the stunning nature that Melbourne has to offer! You should head up to the Shine of Remembrance, which offers great views from of the CBD & is a beautiful place to visit. Fitzroy Gardens are also beautiful to walk through on the east side of the CBD.
Should we head to Brunetti's?
Of course! You must go to the famous Brunetti's located on Flinder's Lane in Melbourne CBD or on Lygon St in Carlton. Here, you will be spoilt for choice with their diverse menu of savory & sweets! They are open for breakfast, lunch & dinner every day. Be sure to come here to get a sweet treat in their display, a toasted focaccia, or even a slice of pizza. They have amazing coffee.
What are the best Italian restaurants in Melbourne?
We recommend Baby Pizza in Richmond, if you want a large menu with various options for pizza, pasta & mains, this is the place to be! It is about a 5-10 minute drive out of the CBD. Pepe's Italian Liquor, another incredible Italian restaurant located in the city on Exhibition St. Their wood fire pizza is on another level with their vodka pasta being one of the best. Lygon St has a range of Italian restaurants to choose from with our favourite's being Ti Amo or Di Stasio (just off Lygon St). If you are looking for a more relaxed & casual vibe then we recommend going to +39 Pizzeria located in Melbourne CBD on Little Burke St. Rossi in South Yarra, has incredible pizza & pasta, & not to forget they have amazing tiramisu. Grazia in Malvern (not far from Hawthorn & Armadale) is one of the best Italian restaurants, it is a bit nicer than your casual Italian & books out fast so if you want to try it here, we recommend booking!
What are some Asian restaurants you would recommend?
Fat boy Thai in Hawthorn on Glenferrie Rd is an amazing Thai restaurant that we love (we have seriously been there at least 30 times). Lucy Lui - Awesome Asian fusion restaurant located in the CBD & have delicious cocktails too. Supernormal - another Asian fusion restaurant based in the CBD on Flinders Lane. Chin Chin - Asian fusion located on Flinders Lane. Wanting a more casual Asian dining experience then head over to Tao's Dumplings in South Yarra, delicious Asian food (incredible Laksa, Dumplings & Fried rice).
What are some bars you both recommend going to?
Melbourne CBD & Southbank have a variety of bars. We recommend Pony Fish Island, Arbory Afloat, Leftbank & Soho (all on the Yarra River with great food at each one). HER Bar has a rooftop & normal dining area located in the CBD. Siglo located near Parliament House is another awesome bar (it gives Paris vibes & can get cigars there). Carlton Wine Room located in Carlton is lovely with beautiful wine & great food for lunch or dinner. Richmond has some great bars & pubs such as Harlow rooftop, The Public House, Fargo, Flower Child (located in St Kilda as well).
