We have put this website together to ensure you smoothly plan your trip to Melbourne. This website includes information from areas we recommend to stay in, travel time, ways to commute around Melbourne & things to do!
Melbourne has a lot of different areas to offer for accommodation. Of course, it is up to you to choose an area that will suit you best when travelling to Melbourne. This could depend on the amount of time you will be spending in Melbourne & what you would like to see & do in your spare time, or wanting to be in a convenient location to the wedding venue. George & I would recommend staying in either Melbourne CBD, Southbank, South Yarra, Richmond, Armadale or Hawthorn. There are many other areas that you can stay in of course but choose what is best for you!
Approx travel time from Melbourne CBD to ceremony & reception:
To give you an idea, the church is approximately a 20-minute drive from Melbourne CBD (depending what part of the city you are in, you may need to add on an extra 5-10 minutes of travel time). The reception is approximately a 10-minute drive to Melbourne CBD & an 8-minute drive to South Yarra (again both locations proximity does depend on the part of the suburb you are staying in so it may add 5 minutes of travel time). The ceremony to the reception is a 15-minute drive.
Southbank & Melbourne CBD:
Southbank is a fantastic area & one of our favourites! It is on the south side of the CBD. It lies on the Yarra River & contains a strip of awesome restaurants & bars. It is just a short walk over to Flinders St where you will find Flinders Station. There are multiple mini bridges to walk over that connect Southbank to the Centre of Melbourne CBD where you can visit the famous graffiti lane, Queen Victoria Markets, be spoilt for choice with shops & enjoy a variety of cafes, bars & restaurants. If you stay in Melbourne CBD, you are surrounded by the above. Both are a great location if you are looking to be close to the MCG if you are planning on watching an AFL game during your stay.
Hawthorn:
If you are wanting to stay in the suburbs, Hawthorn is a great location it is more so an inner city suburb. Glenferrie Rd in Hawthorn is awesome, it contains a great range of shops, cafes & restaurants. It is only a 3-4 minute drive to the reception & a 20-minute drive to the ceremony. Glenferrie Station or Hawthorn Station is only a 15-minute train ride into the CBD.
South Yarra:
South Yarra is another awesome inner-city area. It contains trendy bars, cafes & restaurants especially along Chapel Street. It is approximately a 5–10-minute drive into the CBD. It is about a 20-minute drive to the ceremony & about an 8–10-minute drive from the reception.
Richmond:
Richmond is another great inner-city area to stay in. It is the suburb next to Hawthorn & only a 10-minute drive into the CBD, a 20-minute drive to the ceremony & a 5–10-minute drive to the reception. Richmond is a great vibey area with lots of cafes, shops & bars to keep you busy if you are looking to spend a couple of days down in Melbourne. It is a great location to stay at as well if you are planning on watching an AFL game during your stay.
If you are not driving or hiring a car, we recommend the easiest way to commute to both the ceremony & reception is via Uber, Didi or any other ride share vehicles. Uber is quick, efficient & cost effective in Melbourne. You can pre book Ubers or other ride share options via their apps in advanced if needed.
Depending on the location of your accommodation, trains or trams can be an option for your commute to the ceremony or reception. If you are considering either of these options, please feel free to contact Tiana directly so we can help you best plan your commute from & to your accommodation on the day of the wedding.
